Meetings

Lectures: Tue Thu 12:00-1:30 (Room IC 213)
Lab Hrs: Thu 3:00-6:00 (Room IC 213)
Office Hrs: Thu 2:00-3:00 or by appointment (Room ISyE 403)

Objective

The objective of the course is to introduce analytical methods for inventory control and production planning and control. We will study forecasting methods, inventory models, deterministic and probabilistic production planning and scheduling methods, and shop floor control techniques.

Organization

You will be assigned problem sets, that will include both analytical and empirical problems. There will be 3 projects on which you will work in groups of 4 members. The purpose of the projects is to implement the analytical models covered in the lectures on the computer. There will be 2 midterm exams and a final exam, all closed book, closed notes.
All problem sets are due at the beginning of class on the due date. Unless you provide a medical report, makeup exams will not be available. If you miss a midterm exam your final exam grade will count towards it. You can use calculators during the exams, but programmed calculations are considered cheating.

Textbook

The required text for the course is Factory Physics by W.J. Hopp and M.L. Spearman.
Another suggested text is Production and Operations Analysis by S. Nahmias.
